This is my first tim
e checking Incorruptible out and since it links into Irredeemable I’ve been curious in seeing how this series compares. For it’s an expansion of Mark Waid’s vision with the idea is that the top of the FBI’s most wanted list decides he’s the best hope in dealing with the Plutonian’s turn against humanity. So how is my reaction to this book and how does it play out for me the first time reader? Let’s see how Incorruptible #18 is shall we?
This one actually flowed better for me than my first time reading Irredeemable. I think it was the atmosphere I enjoyed more in this one for I think I just enjoyed the world around Max Damage more. Especially love the other villains that are hanging out in the sports arena. The football sequence had me laughing my head off in the midst of the pure unexpected nature of it. It was absolutely brutal yet the one scene just made it insanely hilarious. Of course I do have a dark sense of humor. Of course in the midst of this sequence you get introduced to Mr. Bellamy who looks like he’s playing two sides of the coin with a character named Alana working with Max Damage. Then just after this you get introduced to another member of his group being Lt. Armdale who’s getting over his issues which what he calls the, “Glug-Glug” which I thought was a funny way of putting it. The Glug-Glug is also how he explains his occasionally sketchy memory. I have to say the ease of which everyone is introduced made me quite happy.
Marcio Takara’s artwork on this impressed me. I think honestly this style is what caught my eye from the start. This expressive kinetic style is definitely something that works wonders for this book. From just the normal conversations to high energy action sequences his art style is just perfect for this. It has the perfect amount of animation for the expressions and yet the nice amount of darkness to it that makes it pop out at you.
There’s a dark twist introduced at the end of this issue that for me just knowing as little as I do still made my eyes pop out. It makes me wonder just how they’re going to make this work out story wise. It’s going to be interesting that’s for sure considering that it’s a fairly brutal cliffhanger. All I can say is I’m going to be checking out the next issue of this to see how this ends up. I have to say since this way my first time reading Incorruptible and that I felt a part of the world right from the start I can say definitely say go grab this book. Nicely done team.
