You know in a comic series when you have a loose idea of how it’s going to go and then it takes you in a completely different direction? That direction in which you go, “You know what I really didn’t see that coming.”, and this is that kind of issue. Call it the issue with a plot twist that definitely caught my eye and made me curious in where it’s going to go from here. Welcome to Stan Lee’s Starborn #6 in which you’re dropped in the midst of one epic fight from last issue and get to witness surprises on a scale that take the series in a direction I didn’t quite expect.
Yes I follow up my other Chris Roberson review with another book he’s working on but it just seems to fit. This is the issue that’s also a nice bit of a turning point for me with this series. This book is officially on that list of books to keep your eye out for his writing style for this is a notch above what I was expecting for this book. I loved the intro pages showing the main character Benjamin with his best friend Tara and their adventures as kids. I was smiling a lot at how cool it was to see that story. Then after that whole sequence you’re in the midst of the battle from last issue that gives hints that his powers might be a different thing than what he imagined. The new concepts that Roberson has added into the series in this issue I found myself wanting to see how it’s going to play out in further stories. There’s one sequence on Earth in particular that’s intriguing to me. There’s another I don’t want to say much about outside of something went kaboom and it better not be the thing of pure awesome that I like.
Khary Randolph and Matteo Scalera do an absolutely amazing job with this issue. The way the whole fight scene goes is this electric mix of pure kinetic energy on a comic page. It just feels like an animated movie and it all flows together beautifully. It’s almost like say if there ever was a Starborn animated movie you could use this as a storyboard in it. It was that good. Every bit of the issue after that is also a treat to behold. Then those last pages I can’t dare to mention in full without spoiling the twist are something to behold for yourself. When you see them I dare you to be disappointed and feel every bit of the emotion on those pages.
Yeah I’m going to have to say I’ve turned from keeping an eye on this book and maybe getting more into it to finding myself totally enthralled as to how it’s going to play out from here. Keep it up team for I can definitely say you’ve earned my readership in a big way with this issue. I want to see how the last page plays out throughout the series in the midst of everything else that’s going on with this book. You have to say that once you read this issue you will be wanting to see how this is all going to play out from here.
