In the follow up to the last issue of Starborn Benjamin and Tara are hiding in an abandoned palace keeping distant from a group of warriors that are coming after them. He’s just figured out that his Dad was something that he never could have imagined him being. In the early flashback sequences Chris Roberson does a clever thing in showing what Benjamin thought his Dad did as a kid. The Speed Racer and James Bond references are a nice touch and I loved how the Khary Randolph and Matteo Scalera team handled that one. I loved that whole segment. For when he realizes what his Dad that creates one rude awakening for him. In the course of Benjamin’s reaction you learn more about Tara and her history with him and the ramifications of his newly learned history about his family.

This issue definitely struck me nicely in the character development. Last issue was when things really started to click for me for the most part and then I’m just falling in love for these characters. I think out of the Stan Lee books this is the one that’s clicked with me the most. It’s easy to relate to Benjamin and his story for everyone has had the thoughts of everything you’ve ever dreamed up being real is pretty cool. Then when you learn it’s something completely different you’re not totally sure how to react to it. He’s just like anyone else if that situation happened to them. Then to find out the girl you’ve loved since childhood is something else entirely and then you see why she’s never been able to reciprocate it’s going to break your heart.

Then when you’re on Earth you get to see an appearance that I can’t wait to see the ramifications of. That’s one giant spoiler that I definitely want to see you all read for yourselves. When you get back to the battle after that segment you get an appreciation of the situation Benjamin and Tara are in once they’re found by the warriors of this world they’re on. The situation is tense as anything you could imagine. Roberson definitely sets it at fever pitch. Then once it all kicks into gear and you get to that last page you just know things are only going to get more interesting from here.

If you couldn’t tell from the review I really liked this issue and I love how everything is coming together in this book. This story is definitely picking up the pace and it’s not stopping for anything. The universe for me is coming to life and I have to say I can’t help but be along for the ride. For anyone on the fence with this book I’d tell you to just get it. You can pick up this issue and you’ll be perfectly fine. Go forth and adventure into this brave new world for you won’t regret it.
