I was given the wonderful opportunity if reading issue 1 of David Lapham’s Ferals preview this week, which satisfied my craving of a good horror comic. Usually I would turn to anything by David Hine, but given my interest in Vampire Diaries ever since the wolf was introduced last season, I couldn’t fight my urge to check this one out.
First off, the art from Gabriel Andrade depicting the horrific murder scenes of an animal ripping the flesh off humans found in this issue are both gory and comedic. We’re greeted by a mauled man with his torso separated from his body, guts perfectly spilled, and his (man parts) stuck in his throat. I literally busted out laughing, then had to look close to make sure I did see this correctly. Wow my friends, this book caught me off guard.
We’re introduced to Gerda, wearing the classic red near the end of the (preview) book. Odd name for a wolf book but hey, it does add a bit of comedy in odd places. She’s rather drawn to the police officer Dale, and if I were to guess, I’d say she was the werewolf. Here’s why: She’s wearing red, she likes painful/strange fetish things, and no male-werewolf would leave a man’s ‘parts’ hanging out his victim’s head. I’m hoping she is the wolf, since that card isn’t played much by the entertainment industry.I’m literally waiting to get my hands on the full Ferals issue to satisfy my curiousity.
