Uncanny X-Force #19 Cover Marvel ComicsUncanny X-Force is the sort of series that should have clicked with me from the start. I read the first six issues of Uncanny X-Force, I liked it but just something wasn’t there for me to embrace the series. With Regenesis in full swing, I figured this would be a good time to check back in with this title. It’s straight after the finale of the Dark Angel Saga, which I haven’t read but luckily the intro explains what happens in the story. Remender also did a nice job within the issue in explaining what happened in the Dark Angel Saga, filling you in on the happenings with in Uncanny X-Force smoothly. Robbi Rodriguez lends a truly new feel for Uncanny X-Force with his artwork.  You might know him from series such as Maintenance and Hero Camp.

I would recommend going into Uncanny X-Force #19 is read the intro at the start of the issue. Fills in any blanks you might have in reading the issue. It helped me out, since I only knew a minimal amount of what was going on within the book.  Makes it easier for you to figure out who Fantomex is talking to. It’s Evan or Genesis a.k.a Apocalypse. Not a major spoiler but it will come up within the issue. Remender is taking the Apocalypse story in entirely new territory, it doesn’t hurt that Apocalypse is one of my favorite villains. I appreciate the new twists. Rodriguez also has a nice way of capturing the little moments within the conversation of Evan and Fantomex.

The major part of the issue is focused on the aftermath of the Dark Angel Saga and the fallout of what all went down. Luckily as I mentioned earlier, Remender does a nice job in summing up the events for you. One part of the aftermath is the Nightcrawler from the Age of Apocalypse has been added to the team. Leading to one heartbreaking moment later in the issue I won’t spoil for you. If you know even the slightest bit of X-Men history it will tug at your heart strings. There’s a lot that’s set into play with this issue, I have to say Remender’s ease of getting this set up impressed me down to the last page. Which considering what the last page revealed, I’m excited to see just what next issue holds.

This took long enough, but Uncanny X-Force finally found a way to hook me. I  love comics that use concepts and then aren’t afraid to push in directions I couldn’t even have thought of.  Rick Remender seems to be cutting loose for this next story arc and I can’t wait to see the results. I wish Robbi Rodriguez was the regular artist, but to have him for this one issue was a treat. If you want to see more of his work check out, Frankie Get your Gun, his webcomic series.  Outside of that, I am excited to see just what Uncanny X-Force has in store for the future. I’m on board for this next story and I think the time is right to check out Uncanny X-Force. If you’re a new or old X-fan you can’t miss this one.
