2011 has been a banner year for comics, and for MyComicNetwork. It has seen this site complete its first full calendar year of operation, offering reviews and news from the comics world. It has also seen some big ideas, big changes, and some definite and some possible big mistakes by the comic book industry. This year, we are pleased to present the top five articles from the site, as selected by you, the readers, by your visits to the site and clicks on the respective articles.
Our first article in the list came in at number five, and was written by Wesley Messer. It takes a look at one of the “big events” that will occur in the world of comics during 2012, which pits the Mighty Avengers against Marvel’s other group of heroes, the X-Men. Wesley looks at the series, and also makes some great observations about how Marvel may be over killing the “big event” idea into the ground. Check out his story at Avengers vs. X-Men: Could This be Marvel’s Biggest Event of 2012?
Coming in at number four is a column written by Jill Rayburn. In this piece, she writes about the latest return of Doomsday and the damage and mayhem that he causes. She shares with our readers both the good and the bad, her likes and misgivings about the series. Check it out at The Reign of Doomsday.
The number three article for this year in comics was written by Paul Keller. It is a piece about the casting of Anne Hathaway as Catwoman in the upcoming movie, “The Dark Knight Rises,” scheduled to be released in 2012. After all, Anne Hathaway in a Catwoman outfit is something that will make a lot of guys happy. Read the piece and watch the video at Anne Hathaway Confirms Catwoman Role in Dark Knight Rises.
The number two article for this year was written by Jill Rayburn. When word got out that Bruce Wayne was being killed off and a new Batman was going to be named, this writer took the news with a grain of salt the size of Mount Everest. I suspected it would be like so many previous killing of major characters, and just a ploy. Sure enough, I was right and Bruce Wayne returned. In this article Jill writes about Wayne’s return, and how it was disappointing. Check out her viewpoint at The Disappointing Return of Bruce Wayne.
The number one story for 2011 was also written by Jill Rayburn, and again reflects her disappointment in a “new” comic. As we all know, DC Comics went through a metamorphosis into what they call, “The New 52.” One of the titles is “Red Hood and the Outlaws,” which, in her eyes, totally falls flat. I have to agree with her on this, as the anti-hero concept just doesn’t work in the case of these characters. DC should have thought this one out a lot more before running with it. Check out her thoughts at Red Hood and the Outlaws Should Be Outlawed!
2011 is over and in the books, and 2012 stands before us. What kind of wonders does the world of comics have waiting for us in our journey in this year? Follow this site for the latest news and comments on that subject.
